One After 909 - The Beatles

One after 909 by the Beatles is a very simple song for drums it's just a swung quarter note groove and so I played it fine. I added some colour which wasn't in the original recording, and I think that overall it gave the song some more depth. On the day I was a bit shattered which is why I don't have as much life to me and character as I would've had and so naturally my attitude and performance could have been a lot better. For example my posture could be much better and I could have exaggerated my playing slightly just so I look more enthusiastic. I also messed up the beginning because I forgot that the rhythm guitarist had to do his little thing.

I wanna be Sedated - The Ramones

I wanna be sedated is a fairly fast song with a consistent eight note groove switching from hi hat to ride when the verse goes into the chorus. I did not play this exactly like the original because I added many more fills occasionally and I changed up the kick drum part of the back beat. Aswell as all that I added in a floor tom groove for the last few bars of the song for dramatic effect. The song was far more draining compared to one after 909 because obviously the tempo was higher. I made a few mistakes like going out of time a little but they aren't massively noticeable so therefore the performance was just fine.

Cory Wong - how to get gigs

Cory Wong's video was showing that to get gigs it helps to know people but by knowing people you need for them to think that you are professional and prepared but also that you are good at what you play. He also said that if u get offered a gig that's more what you want, then you have to leave respectfully to maintain your professional personality. He mentions networking with audience in some parts of the video because many musicians go to gigs to scout musicians for their own projects. The main points he was trying to get across was that you had to have a professional attitude and a proficiency in what you play.

My Skills Audit Autumn 2023

I want to understand chord progressions and in general how chords work when formed together. Simply because I want to write my own songs, I can write drums and I can write lyrics but I just don't understand how to write guitar. My motivation to learn that is my desire to write songs all by myself.

Don't Stop - Fleetwood Mac

My objective was to play Don't stop by Fleetwood Mac and changing it slightly to match the vocalists key and I think that we were successful with the rendition we created. We did it by playing in a different key and playing more similar to a rock and roll song which is why my fills are not the same as the original, for example my fills are more colourful. I think the whole band connected quite well and the drums and lead guitar matched the energy of one another giving the sound of the song a strong feel. I messed up quite a few times like the intro where I went into a straight groove rather than a shuffled one.  The only problem we had was matching the key of vocals and guitar. Next time I want to play the drums more similar to Mick Fleetwood with all his ghost notes on the snare and his restraint for fills.
